Nasty Gal Gets Nasty with Knockoffs

With the BBMAs behind us, behold the drama of the day. Nasty Gal, an online retailer, claimed Taylor Swift's Billboard jumpsuit as their own "Frisco Inferno Jumpsuit" which had already been accused of being a copy of a Balmain jumpsuit from Spring 2015.

Nasty Gal posted an Instagram (see below) claiming that Taylor was wearing their jumpsuit. It quickly sold out, and then they proceeded to delete the offending post, after Balmain rightfully claimed the jumpsuit Taylor Swift was wearing as their own.

I've always been offended by those who produce knockoffs and counterfeits, but for some reasons after reading Sophia Amoruso's book #GirlBoss, I was inclined to defend her and her company. However, this is where I personally draw the line. Whether it was a genuine mistake (which shows the negatives of selling knockoffs), an intentional media ploy (which I just can't respect at all), or an attempt to steal the credit (which is just unintelligent) I really cannot continue to support or defend this company.

As a potential customer, they have lost all potential business from me, and all respect I had for the company. If I were any employee at Balmain, I would be fighting Nasty Gal constantly to get them to admit their wrongdoing and the blatant disregard for artistic integrity in the industry.

Daily Babble | #HMBALMAINATION

Yes, that's right ladies and gentlemen. Introduced by the trio of god-like beauty (Kendall Jenner, Jourdan Dunn, and Olivier Rousteing) was the H&M x Balmain collaboration that is launching on November 5th.

The announcement landed all over social media, red carpet interviews, and articles in every major style news source. Jourdan and Kendall both wore items from the collab line to the red carpet, and the glamour and style of the pieces makes me wonder - Is the price range going to be H&M customer affordable?

While I sit and ponder that tidbit, check out the earth-shattering Instagrams that resulted from the #BBMAs announcement.

Daily Babble | #METGALA

The Met Gala this year celebrated the new exhibit at the Anna Wintour Costume Center, China : Through the Looking Glass.

There was a lot of speculation before the event surrounding people's outfits, considering the dress code theme is based on the exhibit. For a China exhibit, many people were concerned that outfits may be either racially insensitive or air on the side of cultural appropriation. While more than a few people missed the mark, and were clearly misinformed with the inspiration for their gowns, even more chose to ignore the dress code and wear the usual gowns.

However, the people who did take on the China-inspired dress code and did it well were incredible. My top choices from the #MetGala are as follows (in no particular order because forcing me to choose between these would be cruel and unusual punishment).

Daily Babble | TIME 100

The TIME 100 Gala was last night, honoring the 100 most influential people of the year. Among these people were many of my favorites, including Fed Chairwoman Janet Yellen, the Queen (Beyonce), internet legend/writer John Green, Presidential candidate Hillary Clinton, tennis champ Serena Williams, business titans David and Charles Koch, Bravest And Most Amazing Girl Alive Malala Yousafzai, the iconic designer of Celine Phoebe Philo, and former supermodel and current superwoman Christy Turlington Burns.

The Gala involved a lot of chit chat among some of the most incredible and awe-inspiring people alive, assuming that the Instagrams from the event are accurate portrayals. (John Green's are particularly great, so maybe go check that out if you have a second.)

Kanye performed, the Red Carpet was filled to the brim with celebrities, businesspeople, and philanthropists, and Naomi Campbell (supposedly) worked the dancefloor harder than anyone else.
